There are many advantages using a MySQL database with FileMaker.
1. Data Extraction
When you export data out of MySQL, you can get data out faster than you can out of FileMaker Server directly.
2. Summary Fields
You can also create columns on the fly for summarizing data without having to create a Summary Field in a table. Also, it’s much faster to do this in MySQL than from FileMaker.
There are numerous software packages that work easily with a MySQL data set, such as Domo and Tableau. While you can do this with Tableau using FileMaker Server 17’s Data API, it is not as data efficient, and FileMaker charges you for data extractions after a certain number of gigabytes.
